For a few months in the mid-1990s, the only trains west of Opelika on the former CofG Birmingham main were long-distance locals 45/46, which covered the Childersburg-B'ham segment via other NS lines, as that stretch of the ex-CofG was OOS. The bridge over Hatchet Creek was highest on the line, which also included two tunnels near Leeds, AL.
