| Engineer Paul Winkelman has come over to the fireman's side to wave hello to the photographer. I met Paul (and his brother Dave) on the Tippecanoe RR in Indiana in 1987. I mentioned the soon-to-be Wisconsin Central and how they were looking for railroaders. He was interested, so I sent him some info after returning to Wisconsin. Next thing I knew, Paul and several of his relatives had moved to Wisconsin to work for the WC. There were so many Winkelman's on the WC some joked it should've been called the Winkelman Central. Paul retired several years ago and moved back to Indiana. Paul and Dave (and probably some others family members) worked for the Erie Lackawanna, Erie Western and the Chicago & Indiana RR out of Huntington Indiana. |
