‘Tis the day after Christmas, 1965, as GTEL Big Bow 9 makes its noisy way past Tower A at Cheyenne’s west end with an extra for Laramie. The C&S overpass offes a fine view of the action, and, depending upon the friendliness of the tower operator, a visiting photographer can get a lineup of arrivals and departures. A number board in the tower window, barely visible, directs arriving eastbounds to the proper yard track. The 1959-built turbine will survive four more years. Demolished in 1974, Tower A decades later will be immortalized in brass by Overland Models.
Coal and steel don't go bad. This album features long, slow, heavy freight trains; drag freights, slop freights, dead freights, etc. Trains with lots of power, and lots of different cargo slogging along behind.
