Remarks & Notes
Amtrak's Southwest Chief normally passes over the Seligman Subdivision during the night. On this day, mechanical issues resulted in a five hour delay in Needles, Calif. The trailing unit had an aux alternator problem coming into Needles. Once in Needles, a BNSF C44-9W was added to the head end. The crew would later "die on the law" at Winslow. Amtrak changes crews in Kingman, about 60 miles east of Needles. When the train had its mechanical issues, the new crew was already on duty ready to go. Talk about a rough night for the crew and passengers.
