At 7:25 pm on July 26th, 2015, Amtrak train 716, a southbound San Joaquin, has just arrived - on time! - in Bakersfield, California - completing its 315-mile journey begun at 3:03 pm in Oakland. Power for the train is F59PHI 2011, built by EMD in August 2001. In December 2011, this engine was rebuilt with a 710ECO prime mover at Progress Rail's Tacoma, Washington, facility.
From one train each way in 1973 between Bakersfield and Oakland when it started up, this line as expanded to six trips daily; four to Oakland and two to Sacramento.
