Cresson is known as the base for helpers that pushed westbound trains from Altoona, but many eastbound trains also required helpers to get over the Alleghenys. By this time, the dominance of 45-line EMDs for helpers was being infiltrated with SD40's and SD40-2's, as seen in this SD40/SD45-2 duo speeding westbound through Lilly to meet an eastbound frieght. |
