Remarks & Notes

SP 5316 East blasts out of tunnel 9 onto the Loop as it battles the tortuous grade. Although SP had only 26 SD39s, they were a main player on Tehachapi and Cajon in the late 60s and throughout the 70s. Sporting 2,300 horsepower, they were shorter than other SDs of the day.
