Heavily laden with lumber products from the Pacific Northwest, UP's eastbound QRVWCB ascends the Tehachapi grade while conforming to the Bealville horseshoe curve. Brand new UP ET45AH 2662 is being put to the test as the train's lead motor, soon it will rattle the switches at the Bealville cross-over, on the top leg of the horseshoe. The rear of its train is strung out towards the bottom end of Bealville, which prior to the 1960s was the location of Allard siding. Seeking to increase capacity on one of America's busiest single track mainlines Southern Pacific connected Bealville and Allard sidings, creating the 13,000' siding we see today. Well dressed in their early 'Spring green', Tehachapi's rolling hills provide a most appealing backdrop for one of the best shows of mountain railroading to be found anywhere.
