Remarks & Notes |
It’s not every day that you see a one car train with three units for power in Utah coal country. It’s even more unusual when the train has a 4 axle GP40P-2 leading. There were only 3 of this model ever built, all for the Southern Pacific for use in San Fransisco commute service.. They were the units that put the last of the Fairbanks Morse Trainmasters out to pasture. This power set had been dispatched earlier from UP’s Helper yard, where it was being used as Dirt Train power, to go west to the Skyline Mine’s loadout near Scofield and retrieve a bad order hopper there. The train is seen here approaching Scofield Dam with the reservoir in the background. Elevation here is about 7700’. |
