Remarks & Notes
The night before I went out to photograph trains, my plan was just to go to Winslow and grab a photo of Amtrak #4. Well, I got word of the Apache Railway running, so I drove the extra 30 miles to Holbrook and caught the train running towards Snowflake. The Apache was back in the yard by 3PM, leaving me with four hours left of sunlight. I decided to be spontaneous and drive out to the border of Arizona and New Mexico to get one of the shots I've had on my bucket list; Lupton, Arizona. The red rocks provide for a dramatic backdrop as an on time Amtrak Southwest Chief races westward to Los Angeles.

Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
