Unlike other railroad routes along the United States, the BNSF's Southern Transcon does not get much variety in power. Whenever power that is not a BNSF GE locomotive makes into the state of Arizona, you can expect railfans to be out to catch it. One prime example is BNSF's SD70ACe. Though they're are common along much of the BNSF system, these EMD motors hardly make it out on California-bound trains. On May 29, we were lucky to capture one of these "rare" locomotives in our neck of the woods. BNSF 8449 races westward towards the Port of Los Angeles on a heavy 8,000 foot long stack train as it hustles at nearly 70 MPH.
Pace and pan shots of trains from on the ground or in the air. If you're not in the locomotive cab or on-board the train, it's the next best thing to being there.
