The word was out on the railfan grapevine that on Sunday, October 19, the first road train would operate over the newly rehabilitated Susquehanna/Lehigh & Hudson River mainline. Quite a few photographers chased NYS&W train NTV-4 over its roughly 120 mile route from Binghamton to Campbell Hall onthe Southern Tier main line. As would be expected, everyone chose different locations, and leap-frogged each other along the route. Everybody had the shot of the first through train in twelve years passing the Lehigh & Hudson River Railway’s general offices in mind, and a photo live worthy of a charter runby formed to capture the scene.
