Remarks & Notes
When the Susquehanna lost its western interchange with the Lehigh and New England in 1961, its traffic naturally dropped off considerably. Nonetheless, its fleet of RS1’s and S2’s, most built during the war, was showing the effects of hard usage, so the NYS&W bought three new GP18’s the following year. The EMD’s didn’t come in the Susie-Q’s standard grey and maroon colors. Instead, the GP18’s introduced the “yellowjacket” scheme that has endured as the Susquehanna standard to this day. After a huge expansion of the railroad twenty years later, one of the GP18’s idles in the NYS&W yard in Binghamton, New York.
