After selling 63 of their trouble-plagued SD50’s the Chessie System, mainly for coal train service, EMD quickly dispatched four SD60 demonstrators to the Chessie. In late October, 1985, they were operating out of Cumberland, Maryland on the B&O. Here EMD-4 leads a Grafton-bound mixed freight west through Pinto, Maryland, assisted by a B&O SD50 and a B&O GP9. The roadbed to the right is the Western Maryland’s Thomas Subdivision, abandoned between Cumberland and 21st Bridge in favor of running over the B&O in 1976.
