Remarks & Notes
This cabbage-stacked 2-6-2 started life in 1919 at the Florala Saw Mill Company and later the Alger-Sullivan Lumber Company’s Escambia Railroad before being placed on display in 1954. It was restored to operable condition in 1974, and came to the Whitewater Valley in 1977. When the Prairie first arrived, it had to doublehead with other locomotives, because, as a lumber railroad locomotive, it was not equipped with luxuries such as air brakes. After the WVRR gave up on steam in the 1990’s, the 2-6-2 was purchased by the Alger-Sullivan Historical Society and repatriated to Century, Florida where it is on display.
