Looking like a portent of things to come, an eastbound Southern Pacific train with mixed SP/UP power descends Cajon Pass at Blue Cut, California. At this point, the ultimately failed SP/ATSF merger had not yet been announced, and the absorption of the SP by the UP was still a dozen years away.
