Two westbound trains are parked in the yard at Russell, waiting on crews to take the trains west towards Cincinnati and/or Columbus. The yard was downgraded earlier this year & most yard operations moved to Queensgate Yard in Cincy as part of budget cuts by CSX management. Today, the yard serves mostly as a crew change point and service shop for trains running between Cumberland, Richmond, Cincinnati, Columbus, and Shelby, as well as the various coal branches in eastern KY and southwest WV. In between the two westbound trains, the keen eye may notice the flash of an eastbound train's EOTD, meaning the train is on air and may be departing shortly.
