1250 was built at Hillside, Dunedin in 1949 and was among the last steam engines built for New Zealand rails. On this day 1250 was making probably the last scheduled runs after serving the Glenbrook Vintage Railway for over 20 years. To renew operational certification requires funds beyond current resources of the railway so it could be many years before this locomotive can roam the rails again.
Railway Enthusiasts Society has operated rail excursions around NZ since 1958, some steam hauled using rolling stock from Glenbrook Vintage Railway which it established in 1970's near Auckland. See www.railfan.org.nz
