Remarks & Notes |
After loading at Highland Mining's Trace Fork surface mine near Holden, mine run H810-23 rolls into downtown Logan and on to Peach Creek Yard in Henlawson for the trip back to the mainline. Life is once again flowing in the hills of southern West Virginia as coal begins a slow recovery and mines begin to reopen throughout the region at the helm of a new presidential administration and under new corporate ownerships. Iconic coal branches such as the Island Creek Subdivision, itself still sporting a mile-long stretch of C&O signalling in service between FD Cabin and Monitor Junction are shedding their rust under the wheels of heavy AC traction locomotives and cars loaded with up to 100 (or more) tons of fresh coal. |
