Remarks & Notes |
A strong line of thunderstorms ahead of a cold front pushed thru Missouri with straight line winds and tornadoes during the evening on March 6th. Strong winds ended up knocking over a complete Q-train west of Mendon causing a major mess for the BNSF. The Marceline Sub was brought to a halt for roughly 24 hours while cleanup was done to the main around MP 366.
Around 10 trains were able to detour via between the Bucklin and KC on the Brookfield Sub. The BNSF has a northwest connection between the Brookfield Sub and the Marceline Sub at Bucklin. Lack of qualified crews and capacity (stored cars on sidings) limited the detours. So only hot trains and Amtrak were detoured during the 24 hour cleanup.
One detour was this Z-WSPALT8-06A. Seen here from the sky crossing the Stanley Lake near Sumner, 14 miles west of Brookfield. This train would meet detouring Amtrak # 4 at Aalberg.
