A double-length Amtrak Pacific Surfliner (train #573), consisting of a six car train set, an F59PHI (#455), six more cars, and another F59PHI (#453). Due to a rather severe problem on the line between San Juan Capistrano and Oceanside, trains were being annulled or delayed most of the day on April 15, 2017. Events then snowballed, causing a real plethora of problems for Amtrak and Metrolink on this busy line. Surfliner #573 is ferrying a complete train set back to Los Angeles as it hustles through Commerce, about nine miles from it final stop at L.A.’s Union Station.
Stretching from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, the Surf Line has become Amtrak's second busiest route. See the Pacific Surfliner and San Diegan in action along with trains from predecessors Santa Fe and Southern Pacific.
