Joining the Pacific Ocean at Emma Wood State Beach for its northbound trip up the coast, UP 2735 and eight business get back up to speed after meeting Amtrak 790 at Ventura. Beginning the day under cloudy skies at Bakersfield, this special made an early morning trip over Tehachapi with its scheduled arrival into San Luis Obispo around 5PM. This quickly became a pipe dream, however, after the train became lodged in a backlog of traffic on the railroad's Palmdale cutoff as a freight ahead suffered from mechanical problems. While the officials riding aboard the train might not have been pleased with the delay...the photographers waiting patiently along the coast certainly didn't mind!
