The Delaware & Hudson’s roster prior to Conrail day (April 1, 1976) was a homogenous, all lightning stripe paint schemed group of locomotives. That changed with the addition of former Reading GP39-2’s and former Lehigh Valley C420’s and GP38-2’s. Those additions, coupled with the switch to different variants of a new solid blue with yellow trim repaint scheme, made it unusual to see a D&H train with a matched lashup.
I was quite surprised to find this Potomac Yard-bound train getting up air after making its double in Allentown yard. I never saw four green GP39-2’s, Reading or D&H, together, before or since this chance encounter.
