At a Friday night slide get-together, the latest news was that two Maine Central units had been the power on southbound Delaware & Hudson train NE-87 to Potomac Yard. Of course, they would be the power on returning NE-87 the next day. No MEC power had visited the region before, and this was the first evidence of the GTI takeover of the D&H. The next day, most of the serious photographers in the Lehigh Valley congregated in Emmaus to see the down east visitors. Here the train is seen entering Allentown Yard. Note the caboose behind the power. There was also one at the rear of the train, so the runaround at Allentown could be expedited. After the runaround, the train provided an enjoyable chase up the L&S line to Lehighton.
