Progress is in the making as the Hot Premium Service Intermodal train BNSF P-CHILAH-2-21 guilds over the Media Trestle on the main 1 track on the BNSF Chillicothe Sub heading west for Los Angeles. Being in north central Illinois you would think that catching a wonderful massive piece of structure towering over a valley like scenery wouldn't exist until you've gotten into the Mississippi River valley, this is once of the few places on this section of the Transcon you see just that. This steel truss has stood the test of time. Built by the Santa Fe Railway this piece of modern marvel has seeing many of years, and a lot of rail action, but time truly is the enemy, and mother nature with its strong and unforgiving personality can take a toll on anything including this amazing structure. Judging by the looks of the current state of this old trestle externally, it seem that BNSF Railway doesn't want to invest anymore money into keeping maintenance up on an old piece of structures. So building a newer concrete/steel bridge is the next, and best option. This is in fact the growing progress on one of the most important Transcon railway system in North America.
