The iconic sandstone buttress called Castle Gate rises above this westbound Utah Ry coal train as it does battle with the 2.4% grades of the Price River Canyon on this gray winter day. There are 5 big 6 axle units on the head end and 4 more manned helpers cut in mid-train. Typically these coal trains weigh around 17,000 tons. Most of the MK 5000’s on this train are now working for the Kyle RR in Kansas and eastern Colorado. |
