SY1583 in charge of empty coaching stock winds its way through the yellow mountains to the mine complex run by Baiyin Non- Ferrous Metals. This was pretty much the world’s last steam hauled passenger service which discontinued on 20th November 2015. Diesel locomotives have now replaced the SY but it was still being used to heat the carriages last winter. From what I gather, the passenger trains to the mine may be stopped altogether and replaced by buses to ferry in the workers in order to save costs. Baiyin, Gansu Province, China.
