A Rare Bird Around These Parts
Haulage rights train NS 117 (CSX Z345-07) is giving all it's worth as two generation of GE locomotive pulls the 7,000+ foot long manifest up the 1.22% Raccoon Mountain grade through Wildwood, GA on the CSX Chattanooga Sub. Far from home rails the lead motor of the train is a BC Rail C40-8M still sporting the original owner paint scheme. It's hard to believe that this paint scheme is slowly fading away as the owner Canadian National is getting around to paint all of there units into the company scheme. The train will run north on the Subdivision where the designated train will get back on NS Trackage in Stevenson, then it's off to Sheffield Classification Yard in Sheffield, AL.
Freight Cowls are standard locomotives that have a hood that extends the full width of the locomotive. Sadly, most Freight Cowls have been retired, but a few still run on short lines.
