"TEE meets Giruno" was the motto of a trip of the RAe TEE II # 1053 of SBB Historic from Olten to Bussnang, for a factory tour at Stadler Rail, where the new high-speed train RABe 501 "Giruno" (Stadler calls it SMILE) will be built for the SBB. Now the elegant train, built in 1961, is on its way back to Olten in Wil (SG), where it made a hairpin turn. Despite enormous technical progress, it is now more difficult to build a train for use in almost all Western European countries, especially because of the various train control systems and new regulations. The Giruno is only built for Switzerland, Germany, Italy and Austria.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
