On Christmas Eve, SBB sent a legendary train on its journey: the Red Double Arrow "Churchill-Pfeil" RAe 4/8 # 1021 from 1939. In this way, the SBB was demonstrating its commitment to its customers with its motto:"On the road at home". On board of the train, the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) invited 80 people who have no one to celebrate with on Christmas. They were selected by drawing lots for this special evening on board the SBB Christmas train. The historic cars were festively decorated and made a beautiful backdrop for a banquet on December 24th. The train started at Olten in the afternoon, run via Aarau-Lenzburg-Mellingen-Wettingen-Regensdorf-Bülach-Eglisau to Bad Zurzach for a short stop. Then it followed the Rhine river via Koblenz-Laufenburg to Pratteln, changed direction and run via Läufelfingen back to Olten. The beautifully decorated "Churchill-Pfeil" (Churchill Arrow) is ready for leaving Bad Zurzach, while the S 41 service 19873 of Thurbo with articulated lowfloor train RABe 526 # 745 is leaving to Eglisau-Bülach-Winterthur.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
