The Meiringen–Innertkirchen Bahn is an interesting 5km private railway, running alongside the Aare river from Meiringen (where it connects with the Zentralbahn) to Innertkirchen. The service is operated by a single electric railcar, which is seen here approaching the 1,502-metre long tunnel alongside the Aare Gorge. Probably the most unusual feature of this line is Aareschlucht Ost station, which is a request stop located inside the tunnel. There is no platform to speak of, just a door in the tunnel wall which the driver carefully lines up with the leading door of the railcar. The door leads to a narrow footbridge across the river (visible at far left in this image), which leads to the scenic raised walk through the gorge its self.
