Almost 35 years ago to the day, Santa Fe 3279 and Santa Fe 2959 are on their side. Heavy rains cause track damage in the area, requiring work crews to repair the track. As crews were working in the early morning hours, Santa Fe 3279 East came around the corner and apparently hit a front-end loader at 5:10 am, causing the derailment. The train was traveling at 23 mph, there was one injury, thankfully no fatalities. You can see the front end loader on the other side of the track.
