Remarks & Notes |
Empty grain train G88971-24 for Alden, IA breaks the tranquil morning silence as it shoots northward through the small town of Ludlow on Canadian National's Chicago Subdivision. The Ludlow Co-op grain elevator stands like a skyscraper and is just one of many that litter the scene here in eastern Illinois. A population of only around 350; Ludlow sits 21 miles north of Champaign and 58 miles south of Kankakee. The town origianally carried the name "Pera," but was later changed in 1867 to what it is today after Thomas W. Ludlow, a shareholder for the former Illinois Central Railroad. |
