A New Generation of Locomotive Technology to Call Redondo Home. As the sun inches closer to the horizon to bring another day in Los Angeles to an end, a pair of Amtrak California-painted SC-44 "Charger" locomotives rest on one of the Redondo Turntable's whisker tracks. Built by Siemens in Sacramento, these two locomotives in particular will be soon be assigned to work Pacific Surfliner trains despite their paint representing Amtrak California's new scheme that can be found on sister locomotives working the San Joaquin and Capitol Corridor trains. Moving forward, Siemens will be delivering Surfliner-painted Chargers that will shortly begin their service on the Surfliners - beginning a new chapter of motive power in Los Angeles while bringing another to a close (the F59PHi). As all this change takes place...pieces of venerable equipment like the original Santa Fe Railway turntable here, built and installed at Redondo Junction in 1927, will now carry the weight of locomotives like the Chargers - a testament of a well-built structure that is set to continue its service to Amtrak for years to come.
