In a somewhat rare turn of events, a Dash-8 finds itself on the point of the northbound Coast Starlight as the train begins its passage over the towering Stenner Creek trestle. While Dash-8 leaders are not uncommon leaders on train 11, they almost never lead out of Los Angeles (14). On this hot afternoon along the Central Coast, however, the AMTK 503 finds itself leading after the northbound trains have been forced to turn at Klamath Falls following a tunnel collapse on Union Pacific's Cascade crossing. With southbound trains arriving into Los Angeles with their consists backwards (the power runs around the train at Klamath Falls and simply pulls it back south like that), Los Angeles' yard crews are forced to wye the train after it arrives that in turn sets the original trailing locomotive to lead the following day's northbound train out of town.
