When was this taken? A quick glance at a Conrail unit coupled to a Reading Unit would make one think that this scene occurred in the late 1970s. But, this was Norfolk Southern Corp H03 arriving in Linden after setting up 67Z’s departure on Thursday, April 4, 2019. Twenty units were painted in heritage color schemes for Norfolk Southern’s 30th Anniversary, including Conrail 8098 (ES44AC) and Reading 1067 (SD70ACe), and while it is unusual to see even one of these special engines, catching two together involved quite a bit of luck. On April 1, 1976, Reading was one of the nine railroads that Conrail would ultimately operate. The overhead wire of Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor sits in the background.
