Remarks & Notes
The rear end of a westbound Burlington Northern grain train is exiting the big Iron Ridge Cut between Austin and Weed, Montana, while climbing Montana Rail Link’s main line over Mullan Pass on August 28, 1993. The manned rear helper set is made up of a pair of MRL SD40s (rebuilt into SD40-2XRs) bracketing a SD45 and SD45-2, nicely blackened by shoves through the confines of Mullan Tunnel.
