Breaking clouds at Uintah. Having traveled through rain and snow during her journey from Evanston, to Echo and Morgan, UP 4014 and her special train emerge from Weber Canyon to breaking clouds and a few peeks of sun here and there.
Here in Uintah, the crowds turning out to see and photograph the newly restored Big Boy were mostly local residents, not rail photographers. It was at this location that I observed some of the more dangerous activities by members of the public, clamoring for a close-up of this leviathan. Numerous folks took up positions less than 10 feet from the tracks, and several hopped over the UP main lines after the train appeared. Even after it was gone, I saw several children continuing to play on the ROW, including two little girls who were "tight-rope walking" on the rails, under the supervision of their dad.....who was standing squarely in the gauge. Fortunately for everyone's sake, it does not appear as if anyone was injured, but it sure did remind me that common sense is apparently not very common. :(
