Remarks & Notes |
The Mississippi River has caused alot of headaches in the Midwest with the railroads this spring. The river crested at Burlington, IA, (19 miles upstream) on 6-02 was the 3rd highest crest on record at 24.48 feet. The record was set in 2008 at 25.78 feet. The water at Fort Madison is starting to go down, but it has a long ways to go before the yard can be put back in service. Here a LA to Willow Springs Z-train heads for the bridge with a new crew on board for the final leg of the trip into Chicago. The BNSF Hannibal Sub (between the depots on the far right) is under water in many spots along the Mississippi River including couple spots thru Fort Madison. The BNSF is doing a good job keeping the busy Transcon main open considering all the high water thru town. Pretty sure back in 1993/2008 the mainline didn't do as well with higher river crests. |
