Remarks & Notes
As SEPTA's PCC IIs continue to ply the Route 15, photographers continue to capture them in one of the few urban environments in Philadelphia that still see streetcar service. Waiting for the car at the Rudolph Blankenbug School got me to wondering - who was this person? A German immigrant who served as Philly's 164th Mayor, he was so profoundly known as a reformer that he was called "The Old Dutch Cleanser" after a popular product of the era. He as also very pro-mass transit in arranging leases for trolley and subway, and it is fitting that a school named in his honor is still served by public transit.
