| Speed Lettering On The Coast Line. While only going as far west as Simi Valley, a scarlet and grey unit returned to the ex-Southern Pacific (SP) Coast Line briefly in the form of UP 1053. Delivered to the SP in June of 1991 as SP 9759 with the ill-fated freight company's "speed lettering" writing on its sides, the unit served across the system before the SP was bought by the UP in 1996. SP 9759 was then renumbered to UP 2058 and carried this number until October of 2013 when it was renumbered to it's current listing of UP 1053. Today, the veteran 4-axled unit and an ex-SP GP40-2 are seen hustling three empty center beams into Chatsworth for a meet with Amtrak 767. |
