As often occurs, the history and ownership of this little switcher is complicated. Progress Rail Services SW1000 100 was built by EMD in October 1971 as National Steel Corporation/Great Lakes Division (GLSX) 58, and worked the mill in Ecorse MI. It was late sold to dealer Peaker Services, who resold it to another dealer, National Railway Equipment. NRE sold it to a third dealer, the Vaughn Group. VCRX leased this locomotive to Cinergy Corporation/PSI Energy Inc., which operated it at their Wabash River Generating Station in West Terre Haute, IN - and later leased to Duke Energy when it bought Cinergy. It was then sold to Progress Rail Services, who then sold it to CIT Group, which will assign it number CBFX 1101.
