The Blue Ridge Sub is best known for the many photo locations through the North Carolina mountains. The south end from Marion to Spartanburg doesn't get a great deal of attention from railfans, but arguably the Clinchfield's most impressive structure is the massive Broad River viaduct at MP Z257, just north of the junction with the Brice Spur to the Cliffside Steam Station. The turnout at Brice underwent a massive transformation with the construction of Cliffside Unit 6 and a sprawling zinc processing facility. Here, N760-30 with Cliffside loads crosses the Broad River. The Cliffside Steam Station, with the 800 MW unit 6 commissioned in 2012 as perhaps the last coal-fired generation unit in the southeast US, is in the distance. Duke has recently begun co-firing with natural gas at Cliffside.
