After Union Pacific closed Colorado’s Tennessee Pass as a through route on August 23, 1997, it still operated a once-a-week local from Pueblo to Malta, and return, for about eighteen months. On January 9, 1998, the eastbound local has just passed through Americus, and is proceeding by one of the tunnels formerly used by Colorado Midland Railway on its parallel route at this location. CM ceased operations in 1918, with this portion of the abandoned right-of-way now utilized by County Road 371.
