EMD SD40-2 8484 is one of only sixteen EMD locomotives remaining in CSXs bright future, also known as YN2, paint scheme. Interestingly enough, the 8484 began life with the Pennsylvania Railroad as SD45 6234, later becoming Penn Central 6234 and so on into the Conrail era. The SD45 made its way to the CNW (CNW 6557) sometime in the 1980s where it would stay until being rebuilt by Morrison-Knudsen into the SD40-2 that it is today. Since its rebuild, it has been CSXs 8484 since. The SD40-2 lead a tie laying train, A038, down the Jesup Subdivision where they dropped ties just north of Race Pond, through the entire siding and finally south of Race Pond. The ties were set aside for rail replacements that would begin in March of 2020. After its tie dropping operation, it would be sandwiched between CSX SD40-2 8017 and CSX SD40-3 4016 on train A794-03. After its run on A794, it would be dropped in Waycross where it is in service as a trim unit.
