Amtrak Pacific Surfliner 580, one of the six southbound trains operating on the COVID-19 reduced schedule, departs the Santa Ana (California) Regional Transportation Center (it’s much more than a train station, as it also has buses!) after making its stop 3:46 pm (15:36) on April 2, 2020. As with most Surfliners pandemic, this train, pulled by CDTX SC-44 2118, is operating to San Diego from Los Angeles. (Only two of the roundtrips operate north of L.A. these days.)
Stretching from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, the Surf Line has become Amtrak's second busiest route. See the Pacific Surfliner and San Diegan in action along with trains from predecessors Santa Fe and Southern Pacific.
