Remarks & Notes
After a crew change at Helper, UP 7656 west has just rounded the vertical slab of sandstone called Castlegate. Earlier in the day it had loaded its 102 empties at the Savage loadout at the end of the Castle Valley Spur near Wellington. Back in Helper it cut in its 3 unit, manned, helpers, changed crews and is now digging in to the steep Soldier Summit grade. Specifics are 102 loads, 14,586 tons running in a 2x3x2 configuration. It is about to enter a short, shadowed section of tracks deep in the canyon. Destination of the train is Richmond, California, presumably for export.
