Steam along the Delaware River. In the late afternoon sun, the Bel Del's excursion train races south along the Delaware River, passing under the I-78 Twin Bridges, on an excursion to Carpentersville, NJ. On the point today is New York Susquehanna & Western #142, a Chinese SY Mikado, built by the Tangshan Locomotive Works in 1989. This locomotive came to America as a brand new machine, originally purchased by Connecticut's Valley Railroad Company, but later sold to the NYS&W in 1992. Interestingly, the Valley never lost interest in acquiring new-build steamers, and acquired another SY second-hand in 2008, after it was damaged in an engine house fire. That locomotive was totally rebuilt and in 2011, went into service in Connecticut as New Haven 3025. Unlike the engine you see here, which is pretty much a stock SY, with some mods for US operation, the 3025 has been extensively kit-bashed to "Americanize" it as much as possible.
