As Norfolk Southern 23M (NS 8032, ES44AC leading) crosses the Juniata River in Mount Union, Pennsylvania on the afternoon of Friday, August 14 2020 one can hardly imagine how much freight has been carried over this 688 foot stone arch Kistler Viaduct since it opened in 1906. Constructed by the Pennsylvania Railroad, it was then operated by Penn Centra and Conrail before current owner Norfolk Southern.
