Remarks & Notes |
These 2x2x2 unusual coal trains on the BNSF are a product of where the trains must go. These trains go to the CP at Ottumwa and on the CP they must transverse the 1.8% Rutledge Hill to get out of Ottumwa and east towards their destination at Fruitland, IA. CP was having to triple the hill with the old BNSF power arrangement, so now I believe Mid-America pays for more power on these trains so they make better transit times. Up til recently this unique trains were one of the few trains that had mid-train DP units. Now BNSF has gone to the stupidity of combining coal trains that puts DP units in the middle. Here an Ottumwa load makes easy work of this .7% grade out of Prescott as 5 of the 6 units are online. The red unit back there is a KCS-AC helping out. |
